On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, David Andrew Sychok, loving father and grandfather, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 76. He passed from complications of Covid-19. Dave was born January 18, 1945 in New York, New York to the late Theophilus (Philip) Sychok and Stephanie Shepta Sychok. He attended boarding school at Tilton in New Hampshire and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Arizona. At Tilton he was President of his class and played football, basketball and track. Between Tilton and ASU he served 4 years in the Marine Corps working as an aircraft mechanic.
After graduation Dave worked for Alcoa in Point Comfort, Texas as a Civil Engineer. He then worked for Norment Industries in Montgomery, Alabama building prisons and security systems all over the country and South Africa. During his time at Alcoa and Norment he established deep friendships that endure to this day. Two of the projects he was most proud of were a Prison Barge he built in New Orleans that was pushed up to the Harbor in New York City, and a Prison he built in Los Angeles, California. He worked very hard and cared about his employees and contractors. He was tough but fair and was respected on the worksite.
He golfed, hunted and loved watching football. One of his favorite memories was a safari trip to South Africa where he acquired his Kudu, Gemsbok, and Impala trophies. Those prized trophies hung in his office and later in his home in Westminster, Colorado. He also loved golfing and went frequently to Big Sur in Carmel, California to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and courses. His favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys who he faithfully watched each week, even though they continued to break his heart. Even when they were ahead in the score he’d say, “just wait, they’ll find a way to lose in the end.”
While in the Marine Corp, Dave served in Yuma, Arizona where he met his wife Beverly Croke and had a daughter, Catherine. They divorced but he continued to make his daughter the number one priority in his life. Though the distance was difficult between Texas and Arizona, he would drive 18 hours straight to pick her up at the beginning of every summer and then back again when the summer was over. During his short six weeks every summer he took her to amusement parks, water parks, white water rafting and trips all over California to Florida to New York, Niagra Falls and many states in between. After Cathy could fly by herself, she went every summer and every other Christmas.
When his grandsons were born, he came straight out to meet them and took pictures with his prized Cannon. He really wanted granddaughters, but he got over it. After retirement he settled in Colorado to be close to his daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandsons. His grandsons were his pride and joy, and he was active and supportive, attending baseball, wrestling, football, and all academic events and graduations.
During his later years he enjoyed working out, spending time with family and attending bible study. He was assured that he would be in heaven with his full faith in Jesus Christ. He had many friends in his church and enjoyed discussing complicated topics from the bible.
David is survived by his daughter Catherine Sychok Aragon, son-in-law Richard Aragon, grandsons Nathan Aragon and Devin Aragon, and brother Theodore Sychok.
