Doreen went to school in Colorado and graduated from Westminster High School in the spring of 1974.
She married her high school sweetheart, Monty Schafer, on her 18th Birthday in October 1974. Monty had graduated the year before and was a young man of 19 years. The young couple was counseled on the difficulty of young marriages. Surely, those who doubted their young love; admire the couple who were happily married for more than forty-four years.
Doreen was the loving mother of three children: Nicole, Nathan and Noelle. She was a stay at home mother and homemaker when the children were young. After they started school she decided to work for Los Pinos Mexican Restraint as a Manager and Bookkeeper.
Shopping was a favorite pastime for Doreen. She would spend hours shopping for her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Grandma would brag about how much she saved while shopping with coupons and applied discounts.
In 2014, Doreen was diagnosed with a lung disease. She needed the assistance of oxygen to breath. As the disease advanced she needed to use more and more oxygen.
After a visit to Arizona, Doreen found that the lower altitude made it much easier for her breath, so she and Monty decided to move to Mesa, Arizona. In 2018, they found a home in Mesa and moved. The move made Doreen so happy. She could go shopping again!!! Doreen had a good summer in Mesa. Her grandchildren came from Colorado to visit with their Grandma and Papa.
Christmas was one of Doreen favorite Holiday’s. Christmas 2018 was special because she was with her children and grandchildren.
From 2014 through 2018 Doreen had several health challenges and six surgeries. 2019 was expected to be a better year. On January 3, 2019 she was diagnosed with a detached Retina. She went through the surgical procedure to repair the damaged Retina; she came through the procedure well and was recovering quickly. However, January 14, 2019 she began to have difficulty breathing and was taken to the hospital where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. During this time she was considered for a Lung Transplant, However, after extensive testing it was determined that there was too much damage for her to be a good candidate for the transplant.
Doreen leaves to cherish her memory her beloved and devoted husband Monty Schafer; three children: Nicole (Josh) Daniels; Nathan (Jenine) Schafer and Noelle (John) Cho; five grandchildren that she adored: Shaylie, Beckett Daniels, Amaya, John Jr. and Joshua Cho; her father, Don Hermann; two brothers: Dale and Doug Hermann; her mother in-law, Ruth Schafer; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In 2013 Doreen’s beloved mother passed away and she missed her terribly. NOW they are together and Doreen can breathe again!
The beautiful spirit of this angel will be missed and loved forever.
