Ellie was born on December 22, 1929, to Theodore and Florence Schmeckpeper in Arlington Nebraska. Ellie’s family later moved to Iowa, where she attended elementary and high school, graduating in 1947. Ellie married Vernell (Vern) Kamrath later that year, and she and Vern shared 67 wonderful years of marriage together before Vern’s passing in 2014.
After moving to Denver (Commerce City), Colorado in 1953 and subsequently to Thornton, Colorado in 1954, Ellie and Vern continued raising their family and working multiple jobs, with Ellie eventually beginning a 27-year-long career (from 1960 to 1987) with the local school district before retiring in 1988.
After both had retired, Ellie and Vern took to the road in their motorhome, traveling extensively over the next 16 years, during which they visited all 50 states. Ellie was a very active congregation member at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, including Sunday school, ladies’ activities, and volunteer events.
She enjoyed gardening, square dancing, playing cards, visiting family (locally and in Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota) and RV camping/traveling. She has a large number of close friends and was very active throughout her lifetime.
Ellie passed away at home on September 24th, 2022, and is survived by her brother, Donald (Becky); her four children, Patsy, Pamela (Lance), Peggy (Ray) and Steve (Angie); grandchildren, Jessica, Kaele, Kristina, Landon, Mindy, Michael and Sierre, and 14 great-grandchildren.
