Floyd L. Foster 103, of Northglenn, Colorado passed away on May 19, 2022 following complications from a heart attack. Floyd was born on May 11, 1919 in Braddyville, Iowa to Carl and Nesta Foster. His family moved to a farm in western Nebraska soon after his birth, where he would grow up on the farm and later in the town of Stratton, Nebraska. He graduated from Stratton High School where he played 6 man football and basketball for the Stratton Bulldogs. Floyd rode his horse Cap to and from school every day and he loved telling that story to his children and grandchildren. After graduation from high school Floyd worked as a bank teller until December 7, 1941 when WW-2 interrupted his life. Following the Pearl Harbor attack he enlisted in the U.S. Army leaving his wife and new born baby of two and a half months to fight for freedom and peace against the Nazis in France and Germany. Following the end of the war he settled in Denver, Colorado in 1945 and began working for, then, Public Service Company of Colorado, now Excel Energy. He worked for the Public Service Company for 40 years until retirement in 1985. Floyd was an outstanding member of the Greatest Generation and an American patriot. Floyd was married to Carole Burnside-Foster for 54 years before her death in 1994. Floyd then married Patricia Hlavaty on Valentine’s Day in 1997; they shared 13 years together before her death in 2010. Floyd was a long time member of the Northglenn Paternal Order of the Elks and participated in their ritual competition team and called their Bingo games, he was selected as the Northglenn Lodge’s Elk of the Year in 1992-93. In his youth Floyd loved golfing and bowling with his friends and was an avid fisherman, hunter and backpacker and lover of the outdoors which he shared with his sons.
Floyd is survived by his sons Roger Foster of West Palm Beach, Florida, Gerald (Jerry) Foster of Lafayette, Colorado and daughter Janet Foster of Northglenn, Colorado. Floyd’s youngest son Thomas Foster died in 2021 from COVID. Floyd is also survived by a step son Richard Hlavaty and his wife Penny of Northglenn, Colorado.
In addition to his sons and daughter, Floyd leaves behind a descendent family that includes sixteen grand children and fifteen great grand children. Floyd was a good father and loving husband to his wives and lived a quiet but respected life.
Services and interment will be held on May 26, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Olinger’s Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, 10201 Grant Street, Thornton, Colorado 80229.
