Genese was born in Gravity, Iowa, October 7, 1932, to Edward and Dorothy Crowe. She is the oldest of eight children. The Crowe family moved to Colorado in January 1945.
She graduated from Colorado Springs HS (now Palmer) in 1951. She attended The University of Denver in the fall of 1951, majoring in nursing until school officials discovered that she had married. Those days a young woman was not allowed to be married and attend nursing school. During the brief marriage she had her oldest daughter, Raylene Smith. After her divorce she worked at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs.
She was introduced to her husband of 62 years, Hallan (Hal), by a coworker in 1953. He proposed to Genese at her parent's house. Hal, Genese and her parents traveled to Raton, NM and were married the Sunday after Thanksgiving, November 28, 1954. Genese had three children, Keith, Valerie and Leslie Rogers with Hal.
They moved to the Denver area in 1955. Genese started working for American Linen that year. Genese never gave up her dream to be a nurse and went back to school becoming an LPN in 1968. She worked at Saint Anthony’s Central and Saint Anthony’s North. Genese again went back to school and received her RN in 1979. She finished her career in Jail not as an inmate but as a nurse in the Adams County Jail infirmary retiring 1999.
Genese was a very private person and a woman of few words. She demonstrated love for her family with homemade “scratch” meals, cookies, and ice cream. Family remembers her fondness for puzzles and her heart for animals/birds. She was the unofficial family historian until her memory began to fail. In 2017, due to declining health she moved to TenderCare at Pinehurst Assisted Living.
Genese is survived by her children Raylene (Norm) Smith, Keith Rogers, Valerie Leeman, and Leslie Rogers; grandchildren Keith Rogers, Jr. (Zoey), Jeffery (Amanda) Rogers, Erin (Michael) Wright, Page Irwin, Vania (Rich) Wilkinson, and Bryce Swanson; great grandchildren Dylon Rogers, Treavor Rogers, Austin Rogers, Zoey Rogers, Nicholas Rogers, Echo Rogers, Cameron Smith, James Wilkinson, Tyler Wilkinson, and Sterling Wright. She is also survived by three sisters Therra Hartle, Leta Nine and Carolyn Marsala; two brothers, Ronald Crowe and Gail Crowe; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her husband Hal (2017), parents, her brothers Wendell and Earl Crowe, and great granddaughter Haley Rogers.
