

Helen C. Nye was born April 13, 1940 with the given name of Elena Clorinda Montoya. Helen passed away suddenly on February 5, 2021 at the age of 80. She was born in LaJara, Colorado, and loved the beauty of the mountains.
She is survived by four children, Cynthia Nye, Larry Nye, David Nye and Melody Carper, her sister Darlene Jones, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Jerry Montoya, mother, Ernestine Arwood, and siblings, Elmo Gallardo and Leroy Gallardo.
Helen was a nurse by profession where she started her nursing career at St. Anthony's Hospital. Afterward, Helen began working at Denver General Hospital in the labor and delivery ward helping with the delivery of babies, including some family members. She remained at Denver General Hospital for many years until making a career change and working for AT&T. After working for AT&T for several years, Helen made the decision to go back to nursing. Helen changed her nursing specialty to geriatrics and began working at The Argyle until her forced retirement due to medical issues.
Helen was a strong, independent woman who throughout her life had to overcome many personal and medical obstacles, including thyroid cancer, cervical cancer, renal failure due to diabetes, kidney dialysis until receiving a viable transplant and triple bypass heart surgery, which required the placement of a pace-maker. Helen will be missed dearly by her family.
Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 15, at 2:00 pm at Olinger Highland Mortuary and Cemetery, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, Colorado 80229.
