Herbert Leroy Masters, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024 in Eaton, Colorado with his children at his side. He was born on May 3, 1935 in Alma, Colorado to the late Bob and Hazel (Hunt) Masters.
Herb grew up and attended schools in Brighton, Colorado. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1953. After graduation, he worked at Stanley Aviation for a short time and then started and retired from Colorado Utility Trailers. He met and married the love of his life, Charlotte Kurzyna, on August 27, 1955 in Brighton. They welcomed their wonderful children Kathleen Ann on September 14, 1956 and Herbert “Lee” Leroy Jr. on September 25, 1960.
His family was the most important thing in his life. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, skiing, and watching his grandchildren grow up. His lovely bride left life on earth in 2005 and he continued to enjoy church, gambling and family time. He spent the last several weeks living with Kathy and reminiscing about his wonderful life.
Herb is survived by a host of family that includes his loving children, Kathy Grable of Eaton, CO; Lee (Brenda) Masters, of Arvada, CO; precious grandchildren, Keith (Susan) Grable of Erie, CO, Dean (Jessica) Grable of Eaton, CO, Paula Sanchez of Arvada, CO, and Ryan Masters of Arvada, CO, his sister Laura Courter of Alexander, ND, seven great grandchildren (Aimee, Scott, Zac, Will, Jaxon, Ryan, and Austin) and many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, brother, Joe Masters, his sister, Joann Frick and his son-in-law Chris Grable.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 10 am at Olinger Highland Mortuary, 10201 Grant Street, Thornton, CO. A reception will immediately follow. A private burial will take place at Olinger Highland Cemetery.
