Hunter Shawn Roddy “Shawn”, age 57, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Platte Valley Medical Center in Colorado, with his wife, Peggy, by his side. He was born on November 25, 1962 in Ada, OK, to Eldridge and Jo Ann (Doolen) Roddy. Shawn was a graduate of Byng High School in 1981 and went on to Oklahoma State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and met his forever best friend and soul mate, Peggy. Shawn and Peggy soon wed and in 1986 they welcomed their son, Jon, who became the most important part of their lives. Shawn’s Eagle Scout status speaks to his exemplary character and adventurous side. He loved going white water rafting when “the kids” would come to visit. Shawn was very devoted to his career in retail store management working at Wal*Mart, Sear’s, Gordman’s and Burlington. Shawn had the wonderful ability to lead a team, train and bring out the best in the associates. Shawn took pride in the number of trainees that went on to become successful store managers. Shawn would light up when his family was around, always wearing his great big smile, laughing, joking, but always with kind words. He was a very gentle soul and loved animals. One of his favorite things to do was to take trips to Estes Park with Peggy and their beloved American Pointer, Wind, and watch for wildlife. He always looked forward to visiting with his brothers. They would golf and have brotherly banter, which always left a smile on his face. He was the most quick witted of them all. He loved his dad “PaPa” very much and enjoyed playing dominoes with his Pa and mother before she passed. After his busy days, whether it be a long day at work, or a day spent with family, he could be found winding down watching one of his favorite western classics. Shawn’s laughter, big smile, quick wit and gentle nature will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, his son, Jon (Lindsey) his “PaPa” Wayne (Rochelle) Rodgers, his brothers, Mike Roddy, Tim (Andrea) Roddy, and Kelly Roddy, as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eldridge, his mother, Jo Ann Rodgers and his sister Jo Denice Gilliam.
The family will gather this summer to celebrate the life of Shawn Roddy.
