Iula received her basic formal education in the public school system. She graduated from Chambers County High School in Lafayette.
In the early 1950s, Iula was united in marriage to Richard Jones in Denver, Colorado. Their only child Richard Jones Jr. was born to this union.
A woman of faith, Iula was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church for several decades. She served the Lord and her church as an usher for many years.
By profession, Iula worked as a hospital nursing assistant and also performed cleaning staff inspections in a number of buildings within the city of Denver. In her free time, Iula enjoyed sharing stories with her family and friends, fishing, and playing the slot machines at the casinos in Blackhawk. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings and holding cookouts on her patio. Iula also loved to travel and spoke often of her trips to Mexico, California, and drives to the mountains and around the country.
