Jay Alan Samuelson

June 8, 1953 - May 11, 2022

Beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many many people, Jay Samuelson, of Denver, Colorado passed on May 11, 2022 with family by his side after complications from surgery. Jay was born on June 8, 1953 to Marjorie (Rosendahl) and Neil Samuelson in Crookston, MN. He was the second of four brothers that grew up partially in Minnesota, North Dakota and later in Denver. He attended Highland High School where he met and later married his first wife, Jenny Stephens, mother of his two boys. In 2001, after six years of dating, he married Brenda Maurer and they shared 20 wonderful years together. Jay worked most of his career at Meadow Gold Dairy until retirement in 2008.

Jay loved to visit with people and talk to anyone. No one was a stranger to him. He was a people person. Anything food related was Jay’s passion whether it included smoking meats, making lefse, starting a BBQ club or teaching his grandsons how to make pancakes and eggs. He also loved to hunt and fish. He taught his son’s the importance of sportsmanship and ethics when hunting and fishing. There were many hunting trips with his brothers and sons to Deer Trail and Holyoke. There were also countless fishing trips all over Colorado and especially Wilson Lake in Kansas with his youngest son Randy. Jay loved to bowl. He was on many leagues and even bowled a perfect 300 game! Jay and Brenda enjoyed playing cards and traveling. They loved to go on cruises and traveled to Mexico, the Caribbean, the Pacific Northwest, and recently Maui, Hawaii for their 20th Anniversary.

Jay is survived by his wife Brenda Samuelson of Denver, CO, sons Mark Samuelson (Shawna) of Wellington, CO and Randy Samuelson (DeVola) of Russell, KS, grandsons Cameron and Cohen Samuelson also of Wellington, CO, and brothers Gerry Samuelson (Caren) of Lemoyne, NE and Scott Samuelson (Debbie) of Thornton CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Marjorie Samuelson and his brother, Boyd Samuelson.

Please join us as we celebrate Jay’s life. We all know that he loved a good story. So come and mingle and share your funny and uplifting stories with others and just know that it’s okay to smile/laugh through your tears.

A graveside service with the family will be held at a later date.
