JoAnne Ehmen Anderson was born July 5, 1932, in North Platte, Nebraska to George and Ruby (Golden) Ehmen. After graduating from North Platte High School, JoAnne attended nursing school at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and completed her clinicals at Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. She spent five years as a member of the Civil Air Patrol where she logged hundreds of hours in a two-seater airplane and was trained to land the plane in case of an emergency.
JoAnne returned to North Platte and started her career at St. Mary’s Hospital. There she met a dashing young man named Arthur Anderson and the rest is history! JoAnne and Art were married May 24, 1954. They had three children, Stephanie, Joseph, and Julie. JoAnne’s life was full with her family, career, dancing, golfing, bowling, playing cards and traveling. She loved cruising to exotic places, relaxing with family and friends at the cabins, painting and crafts of every variety, Husker Volleyball, and playing cards with friends, the grandkids or her great-grandson, Jackson.
In 2020, JoAnne moved to Brownsville, Texas where she enjoyed the hot weather, socializing with new friends and frequent day trips into Mexico. About 2 years ago, she moved to Colorado, where she lived close to Joe and family. During that time, she was blessed to spend time with granddaughters, Melissa and Michelle and their families. Many Saturdays or Sundays were spent enjoying a meal and watching the great grandkids wreaking havoc throughout the entire house.
JoAnne left this earth August 20, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Anderson, daughters Stephanie Anderson and Julie Miller, parents George and Ruby Ehmen, and brothers Boyd Ehmen and George Ehmen.
She is survived by her son Joseph (Lyn) Anderson, daughter Julie Miller’s husband, Russ, granddaughters Melissa (Grant) Melbye and Michelle (Austin) Steiner, great-grandchildren Jackson Melbye, Colton Steiner, and Elizabeth Melbye, as well many other family and friends.
JoAnne will be laid to rest next to Art on September 20, 2025, in a private service in North Platte, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in JoAnne’s honor to the National Kidney Foundation at: https://kidneytribute.rallybound.org/JoAnneAnderson?tab=MyPage.
