Josef Scherer

Josef "Joe" Scherer of Thornton, CO passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at the age of 94. He was born on May 17, 1931 in Gorijani, Yugoslavia. He grew up in Austria with his parents and siblings. He moved to the United States in 1958. He had many various jobs, worked in a coal mine when he was younger, was a welder, worked at United Airlines in the kitchen, was a shuttle driver for US Airport. He was an active member at the Edelwiess Club, where he loved to dance and taught many people how to dance. He was also a bar manager there and enjoyed many other activities. He enjoyed making sausage with his grand children and all who wanted to learn. He also liked inventing things. He was a big soccer fan, where he even coached and refereed games. He loved to travel. He would travel all over the place to visit family. He was able to go back home to Austria to visit his family as often as he could.

He is preceded in death by his parents Johann Scherer and Katharina Scherer.

He is survived by his children, Heidi Borger, Anita Corbell (Keith), and Monika Scherer.

He also has six grandchildren, nine great grand children, and one great great grandchild.

He is survived by his sisters and brother Rosi, Lissi, Johann (Hans), and Kathi. Also many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dignity Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved one during his time that he was with them and especially during his final days. They became a part of the family.

A visitation will take place at Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, located at 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229, on February 12, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

The funeral service will follow at the same venue from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A committal service will be held at the same location from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
