I just Googled Julie's name and was shocked, saddened and absolutely gobsmacked to see of her passing.  Even further saddened by her son's early passing.  I met Julie at Lucky's Diner in the late 1980's.  She had Andrew and he was just so beautiful and precious.  I remember her beauty, her soft spoken charm and her gorgeous smile.  She introduced me to her sister, Pam and we had quite the time hanging out at their apartment in Elgin.  I remember sitting for Andrew quite a bit.  I used to come and clean her sink full of dishes (I'm a little OCD) and she was amazed that I enjoyed it.  Julie dated my brother, Brandon Barbieri, for a brief time.  I would have loved to have had Julie as family.  She was such a great a great mother to Andrew.  Julie worked for my dad for a while at Educational Resources and I worked at El Molino's with her while I attended De Paul.  I was just in Elgin in August of 2021 to attend the funeral of my very best friend, Andrea Michelson, who passed at only 54 years of age from cancer.  I went to have dinner at El Molino's and told the waitress I used to briefly work there.  Our conversation drifted to Julie, as the waitress had been there forever.  She stated that Julie was just there for dinner no more than a few weeks before me, as she was visiting relatives. I so wished that I could have seen her.  I remember her mother's wonderful piano playing.  So many people gone too soon, really.  Julie was a bridesmaid at my first wedding.  I lost touch when she moved to Colorado.  I wasn't crazy about her new boyfriend and I felt like it was a mistake to follow him out there.  How truly selfish of me to have judged, as it let us drift apart.  The last time I saw her was at Madeleine's first birthday party.  I bought her a red dress.  God takes the best people too early.  I  am not religious, but I know she is with Andrew now.

My heart breaks for Julie's family. Her daughters and grandson meant everything to her and she was very dedicated to creating happiness for them. What a wonderful lady gone way too soon!

I remember Julie from our childhood - our days on Roundtree Road - all the afternoons playing outside after school, in the nearby woods, at the park and in our homes.  I remember playing Barbies for hours and hours in her home or mine, right next door. I remember Julie’s laughter, imagination, giving personality and love of nature. Julie will forever be in my heart as part of my own formative years. Never forgotten. Loved.

I have so many memories of Julie and the girls while they lived with me. We talked a lot about our single mom journeys. We talked about our kids a ton. We talked about God. She shared her favorite recipes with me (I had none to share with her, which doesn't surprise those of you that know me). It was bumpy for a while but she eventually did the hard work, got an amazing job (she was so talented) and helped build her own Habitat for Humanity home. I was SOOO proud and happy for her. She loved her kids fiercely. I pray that God wraps them in not-of-this world comfort and peace for the rest of their lives.


Julie was one of the first people I met when moving to Dundee Illinois back in the early part of the 80s. We became biking buddies for several years. Even though I was older we felt like sisters. Julie introduced  me to her mom Penny,  knowing that we were both Shaklee ladies :-) From  there I got to know all the members of this beautiful family. Each one has made an impact on my life but it all started with Julie! You will be deeply missed by many. See you on the other side.✝️🌹♥️
