Born to Karl Stegmueller and Helen Yeoman Stegmueller in Painesville, Ohio in 1944, he graduated from Riverside High School in 1962. He then went to Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science with majors of Biology and Geology in 1973. While in Wichita Falls, he married Patricia Gulledge in 1967 in Pasadena, Texas.
Together, he and Patricia have 2 children, Karin Stegmueller Stewart (spouse Fred Stewart, IV) of Strasburg, CO and son, Robert Stegmueller (spouse Kristin Hanson Stegmueller) of Northglenn, CO; four grandchildren, Karleigh Stewart, Kaitlin Stewart Phillips (spouse Thomas Phillips), Mary Stegmueller, Robert Stegmueller, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Harleigh Phillips and Hudson Phillips. His family was the core of his heart.
His professional career started in Wichita Falls, Texas where he worked at Michael O. Maloney, Architect, Charles Harper, Architect, and Wingler and Sharp, Architects. After a tornado in Wichita Falls in 1978, he relocated to Denver to work for Warren Flickinger, Architect. Additionally, from 1982 to 2000 he served on the Building Code Advisory Board for the City of Thornton. He retired from Durrant Associates in 2012, and opened Grange Creek Studio shortly thereafter. During his career as an architect, as well as his membership in the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA), travel became an essential part of his job which led to many interesting places, both in the U.S. and abroad. After retirement he continued traveling the world with his wife, and together they visited 33 countries.
When his son brought home a flier for Cub Scouting, little did Steg know how much the Boy Scouts would become a major part of his life. He served many roles with Troop 524 in Northglenn, Colorado, most notably as Scoutmaster from 1997 until his death. He also served as advisor to Venture Crew 524. He completed Wood Badge in 1992, and was heavily involved in district leadership training, and was a trainer in three Wood Badge courses. He was recognized as a Silver Beaver recipient. He also was a Vigil honor member of the Tahosa Lodge of the Order of the Arrow, serving in many key leadership roles. With Pattye, they served together on the National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP), reviewing and guiding scout camps across the country. Scouting was important to him as a way to shape future leaders as well as share his love of the outdoors and camping.
Bob lived a life of many pursuits and interests; was an avid reader, loved the outdoors, history, rock collecting, insulator collector, a train enthusiast- just to name a few. He approached every day with curiosity, character, and integrity, and always worked to improve the lives of others. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and valuable life lessons with younger generations and loved being actively involved in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
