

Lorraine was born 97 years ago in Amherst, Colorado. Her parents were Eldon and Meta Schmidt and she was the middle of three daughters (Elda, Lorraine and Rose). She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amherst. She graduated from Holyoke High School (Holyoke, CO) in June 1942.
Lorraine attended Central Commercial College in Denver and worked at Knoebel Mercantile Company for four years until she married Paul Kerstner on May 18, 1947. Her son, Kenneth, was born in March 1948 and Paul passed in September 1975. In 1949 Lorraine went to work for Exxon/Mobil Oil Company and retired after 26 years in January 1975.
Lorraine and Paul were greeters at Concordia Lutheran Church and after Paul’s death Lorraine continued to be very active in the church. She attended weekly bible study and many LWML conferences and events. In March of 2000 she moved from Denver to Thornton and became a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church where she continued to attend church and bible study until she moved into an assisted living facility in October 2019. Her strong faith was an inspiration to many.
Lorraine enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, crossword puzzles, bingo and cards. At the age of 94 she continued to drive herself to church, bible study, senior potlucks, bingo and cards. She is survived by her son (Kenneth), daughter-in-law (Carol) and grandson (Matthew). Also survived by her sister, Rose Schaeffer, sister in-law, Claren Kerstner and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
