Nathan was born and grew up on a farm in Victoria, Kansas. He graduated from Victoria High School in 1952 where he played football, basketball and baseball for the Knights. He excelled in baseball and was signed to a contract by the St. Louis Cardinals. Between graduation and and his reporting date of April 1, he met and fell head over heels with Donna Stecklein.
He left home for the Crowley, Louisiana Minor League team as a knuckleball pitcher. Whether homesick or in love, he went back home to Kansas and wed Donna in 1953 and raised five children.
In 1966, a job opportunity in Denver allowed him to move his family west. They lived in the same house in Commerce City for over 50 years. He was very proud that he just received his 55 year pin a a Boilermaker.
Nathan is survived by his wife , Donna; children, David (Patty), Timothy (Karren), Douglas (Peggy), Tammy Anschutz and James (Nancy) all of Colorado, as well 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Nathan will be held 11am Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229.
A reception will follow in the Ambassador Reception Room at the Villas at Sunny Acres, 2501 E. 104th Avenue, Thornton, CO 80223.
