Rosalie was born in Denver, Colorado on October 4, 1942 to Alfonso and Emma (Vigil) Trujillo. Rosalie grew up and attended school in the Denver area. She graduated with the 1962 Class of Manual High School.
Upon graduation from High School, Rosalie married Ernest J. "Ernie" Bernal. They were married on November 24, 1962 in Lafayette, Colorado at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. It was a double wedding ceremony with Ernie's sister, Eliria, and new brother-in-law, Tony Ochoa. Rosalie and Ernie would go on to be blessed with two sons, Ronald and Robert.
Throughout Rosalie's life, she enjoyed living in Boulder, Estes Park and ultimately settling into retirement in Arvada, Colorado. While living in Boulder, Rosalie worked for Neodata for close to 10 years. After moving to Estes Park, she worked for Winona's Fine Women's Clothing Store. Rosalie was always the ultimate homemaker. While Ernie was busy keeping the outside and yard in immaculate condition, Rosalie kept herself busy maintaining the inside. Her house was always in impeccable order.
For many years, Rosalie enjoyed crocheting, knitting and cross stitch. From baby blankets to pot holders, many of her family, extended family and friends were recipients of her handywork. She also enjoyed ceramics. Rosalie was a collector of Cobalt Glass as well as little perfume bottles. For 35 years Rosalie also collected Noritake Bone China Easter Eggs.
Family get-togethers were an important part of her life; camping with her immediate family and holiday celebrations with extended family. The Bernals often hosted Thanksgiving dinner for everyone. In recent years, Rosalie and Ernie often made frequent treks "up the hill" to her favorite resort in Blackhawk. When Rosalie wasn't sitting at her favorite slot machine at the Ameristar Casino she could be seen sitting very close by "patiently" waiting for the person to step away who was currently occupying "her" seat at the one armed bandit. If a trip to Blackhawk was not in the cards (pardon the pun), Rosalie enjoyed trying her luck with Colorado Lottery's scratch tickets. While relaxing at home with Ernie, they enjoyed watching television. Some of her favorite shows included Cops, Dr Phil and Judge Judy.
As the only two remaining members of the Trujillo family, Rosalie and her sister, Florence, maintained a close relationship. They would visit each other as often as they could. They also talked on the telephone several times throughout the day, every day. The two shared one such conversation the evening before Rosalie was taken to the hospice facility. Unbeknownst to either, it would be the last conversation they would enjoy with one another.
Rosalie is survived by her husband, Ernie Bernal, of Arvada; sons, Ronald Bernal of Arvada and Robert (Lacy) Bernal, of Westminster, Colorado; sister, Florence Atencio of Erie, Colorado; two grandchildren, Elan and Eva and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Rosalie was preceded in death by 10 siblings including her twin sister, Rosanna Bernal.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held 11am, Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Olinger Highland Mortuary, 10201 Grant Street in Thornton, Colorado. Immediately following the Celebration of Life, the Bernal Family will host a reception at their home in Arvada.
