Therese was born to George and Agnes Schmidt on December 5th, 1926 in Washington, Wisconsin. She was married to Herman Martinez on January 5th, 1952 and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage before Herman passed in 2003. Therese & Herman met in Wisconsin and moved to Colorado shortly into their marriage to raise their family of nine children. They spent many years in Denver, Colorado and then enjoyed their retirement years "out on the farm" in Byers, Colorado. Therese worked as a certified nurse assistant (CNA) for a large majority of her career in the OB/GYN specialty where she helped bring many babies into this world and take care of their mothers. Her gentle and caring spirit was a hallmark trait of Therese in all aspects of her life, whether caring for her family, people in her work, or her love of all animals, especially horses. She loved taking adventures , big or small, whether it was to Hawaii with her husband for a milestone vacation or to a balloon festival in New Mexico with her daughter, Mary. Therese loved to experience life. Therese was an avid reader and storyteller, sharing her life experiences with her many grandchildren.
Therese is survived by eight of her children, Michelle Boyle (Tom), Greg Martinez (Pam), Mary Hidalgo (David), Jeannie Dengler (Mark), Joe Martinez, Donna Tafoya (Manuel) Richard Martinez and Laura Rhoads (Gary). Therese is also survived by over 90+ grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Theresa is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Martinez and her son, Terrance Martinez. She is also preceded in death by her son (in law) David Hidalgo and her grandchildren Thomas Boyle, James Martinez, Justin Tafoya and Lucy Martinez. Therese is also preceded in death by her parents George and Agnes, and all of her siblings; Mary, Sister Mary Joseph, Father Terrance, Jude and Francis.
