A funeral service will take place on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Young’s Funeral Home in Tigard, OR for Mrs. Emelyn I. Turner, who passed away at her Tigard home on June 1, 2013 at the age of 85.
Emelyn was born on February 26, 1928 in Bismarck, ND, the first of eleven children born to Jeffrey and Opal (Cooper) Holstad. In 1949, the family moved to Willamina, OR, relocated again to Metzger in 1957, and settled in Tigard in 1979. Along the way, she married Buford Glenn Turner and they started their family together.
Mrs. Turner’s entire life was devoted to her family. She stayed at home and raised five boys, and was grandmother to ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Among her interests were country music – she would stay up late to watch the CMA’s every year – and Dancing with the Stars. She played card games (Pay Me! was a favorite), and was a highly enthusiastic fan of George Clooney. Emelyn and Buford enjoyed traveling together, making many trips back East to visit family. Mrs. Turner was a member of Lutheran churches all her life.
Emelyn was preceded in death by her husband Buford in 1989. She was also preceded by her sister Arlene and brother Norm.
She will be missed by
her five children, Rodney, Jerry, Steven, Tony, and Richard;
ten grandchildren, Tara, Ashley, Travis, Stephanie, Heidi, Justin, Lucas, Nicole, Christina, and Mike;
nine great-grandchildren, Levi, Lexi, Savannah, Isabelle, Alex, Austin, Michael, Autumn, and Tyler;
by her sisters and brothers, Shirley Gwynn and Verda Felton, and Frank, Virgil, Vern, Darrel, Gerald, and Ron Holstad;
and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Following services, Mrs. Turner will be laid to rest beside her husband at Crescent Grove Cemetery in Tigard.
