The second of three children of Dr. Seymour and Carol (Lofgren) Haber, Eric was born March 11, 1958, in New York City. He grew up in Portland from the age of seven, graduating from Lincoln High School and studying History at Portland State University. He worked over 40 years as a documents technician in the radiology department at St. Vincent Hospital before retiring in 2020.
Eric was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, and Miami Dolphins. He was an enthusiastic follower of Ferrari Formula 1 racing. He enjoyed watching both professional boxing and scripted wrestling entertainment. He was an avid reader, especially of science fiction and mysteries, and amassed a considerable personal library. He idolized and collected all things Godzilla. He was particularly fond of cats and had several pets growing up.
Eric is survived by his wife of 31 years, Tracy Reith; brother Gordon and his wife Meryl; sister Martha Crittenden; several nieces and nephews; and two great-nieces and a great-nephew.
There will be a memorial service May 5, 2024, 2 p.m., at Young's Funeral Home in Tigard. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to your local Humane Society chapter or other animal welfare organization.
