Born on December 9, 1943, in Lebanon, Oregon, to Lillian and Vernon Nelson, Harry was a proud Oregon native who cherished the beauty and community of the Pacific Northwest. He attended Southern Oregon College, where he met Fran Gray, the love of his life. The two married after college and shared 46 wonderful years together, building a life filled with love and devotion. Following Fran’s passing in 2017 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Harry carried her memory with quiet strength and enduring love.
Harry built a respected career in Oregon’s lumber industry, earning admiration for his strong work ethic and loyalty. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Tualatin Country Club, where he enjoyed countless days on the course in the company of close friends. In his later years, Harry found immense joy in spending time with family—whether at home, on the golf course, or traveling. He especially treasured trips to Maui, Hawaii, creating lasting memories with those he loved.
Above all else, Harry was a devoted family man—a loving father to Shannon and Erik Nelson and a deeply proud grandfather to Nyamma Nelson, with whom he shared a uniquely special bond. He also shared a close and meaningful lifelong relationship with his beloved sister, Jan Kennelly.
Harry is survived by his children Shannon and Erik Nelson; his granddaughter Nyamma Nelson; and his sister Jan Kennelly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Vernon Nelson, and his wife Fran Nelson.
A celebration of Harry’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on June 15, 2026, at Tumwater Winery in West Linn, Oregon. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
