After a long three-year battle with cancer, Lorane Claire “Rainie” Hill-Sanders said her final “Goodbye” in the early morning hours of December 17th. She fought hard and stayed resilient and strong until the very end, and now she is finally at peace. Rainie passed in the loving company of her family at the age of sixty-four.
Anyone who knew Rainie appreciated what a blessing it was to have been touched by her warmth and compassion. Born in 1952, she grew up with five siblings in Astoria, Oregon. When their mother passed away in 1974, Rainie took over that responsibility. She was not asked to do so; she just did because that’s who she was. Rainie exemplified selfless kindheartedness throughout her entire life and remained the glue that bound her family together. She married her husband and soul mate, Scott, in the spring of 1980. Rainie and Scott enjoyed a very happy and meaningful life together. Rainie pursued many hobbies and interests throughout her life. She loved yoga, tai chi, and meditation, all of which greatly enhanced her physical and spiritual well-being. She volunteered vigorously for the Democratic party from 2006 to 2012, participating in one of the most historic campaigns and elections of our country’s history. Towards her final months, she developed a passion for helping to provide guidance and insight for herself and for others through the use of Angel Cards.
Rainie’s legacy will live on through her husband, Scott Sanders, her siblings, Dusty Hill, Kevin Hill, Darcy Gimmestad, and Roxanne Hill, and her nieces and nephews, Hayley Hill, Katie Hill, Keith Hill, Aaron Gimmestad, Marie Heaney Rule, Shawn Heaney, and Monica Tracy, as well as the countless lives she touched throughout her life. She was the light in the darkness and especially as she struggled and fought so hard for her life, she continued to keep a hopeful, positive outlook on life. Her inspiration will forever live on, reminding those she loved to always love themselves, and that there is always something worth living for. Rainie firmly believed that there is always something good in this world and she embodied that in her love and her actions. She will be greatly missed. There will be a memorial service for Rainie at Young’s Funeral Home on January 7th at 2pm.
