Mabel was the first of three children born on September 25, 1926 in Rainier, Oregon, to Orville and Alice (Burnstad) Caldwell. During her youth she began to go by Marie. She enjoyed swimming in the Columbia River and gardening with her mother. She graduated from Rainier High School in 1944 and then attended St. Vincent School of Nursing.
Marie was very dedicated to her health care education. She enjoyed studying and always had her books on hand. During her years in school she met her husband, Harvey Junor, at a house she was sharing with other nursing students. Their introduction was unique and sudden. Harvey had a slipper tossed at him which instantly turned his head to Marie. After some kind retaliation, tossing her yarn down the stairs, they became very close and were eventually married at St. Mary’s Cathedral in downtown Portland.
After their beach honeymoon, Marie and Harvey constructed their own home in Raleigh Hills. They raised 4 children: Sharon, Douglas, Thomas, and Nancy. Being a mother was really where Marie excelled. She loved her family and enjoyed every moment she was able to spend with her husband and children. While the kids were growing up she was a homemaker and enjoyed involvement with the kid’s activities, gardening, and cooking. She is famous for her Macaroni and Cheese.
The family enjoyed many vacations at the Oregon Coast which held a special place in Harvey and Marie’s heart. For a week each year they would visit a hotel in Seaside called Archie’s. They would enjoy many beach activities like swimming and razor clamming.
Marie was always happy to host a houseful of people and would encourage people to stick around for a home cooked meal. Together with Harvey they maintained a lovely acre yard including a putting green, vegetable garden, and many flowers. They would host many holiday events and birthday parties.
Marie will be dearly missed by her husband; Harvey Junor, brother; William Caldwell, children: Sharon Koch, Douglas Junor, Thomas Junor, Nancy Puro, 7 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private Commital Service at Willamette National Cemetery.
