Marie L. Johnston, 96, of Tigard, Ore., passed away January 31, 2019. She was born in Eugene, Ore., on October 4, 1922. She was married to Earl G. Johnston on December 26, 1941. She worked at the Army Corp of Engineers.
Marie was a life member of Dog Fanciers Association of Oregon holding many offices within the club. She was a long time member of Cascade Dog Obedience Club of Oregon. She was a founding member of the Afghan Club of Greater Portland, a member of the Chow Chow Club Inc and the Willamette Valley Toy Dog Fanciers.
Marie was awarded the American Kennel Club award for Extraordinary Sportsmanship.
She was a state liaison for Guide Dogs for the Blind and Head of Oregon State 4-H Guide Dog program. She was head of the Oregon State committee to develop the 4-H dog training program and a 4-H Dog Club Leader for many years. Marie has been involved with dog training and dog shows for 60 years. She had a love and passion for all creatures great and small. Prior to becoming involved in the dog show world she bred and showed Siamese cats.
Marie loved the Oregon Coast and spent a great portion of her childhood there. She loved riding horses on the beach. Loved reminiscing about driving the old highway to the coast and her parents opening their home to soldiers that landed on the beach during the war years.
She loved traveling across the United States and Canada and collecting her travel memorabilia.
Marie loved her yard with the huge oak trees, plants, flowers and bonsai trees.
Marie is survived by her five children; Patricia Bauer (Oregon), Suzanne Nannini (Oregon), David Johnston (Wyoming), Nancy Ingalls (Oregon), and Marilyn Hoyt (Oregon).
She had nine grandchildren; Jesse Hoyt (Oregon), Sarah Hoyt (Oregon), Amy Hoyt (California), Katie Hoyt (Oklahoma), Brian Bauer (Oregon), Joseph Nannini (Kansas), Shannah Leal (Alabama), Brent Johnston (Wyoming), and Michael Johnston (Wyoming).
Marie had twelve great grandchildren; Morgan Muller (Wyoming), Meagan Muller (Alabama), Logan Muller (Montana), Nathan Hoyt (Oregon), Miliah Bauer (Oregon), Luciah Bauer (Oregon), Preston Johnston (Wyoming), Dillon Johnston (Wyoming), Jaxson Johnston (Wyoming), Payton Ronan (Montana), Chase Johnston (Wyoming) and Kincaid Johnston (Wyoming).

A private service and internment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery. A celebration of life gathering will be announced at a future date.
