Family and friends are invited to join us in a celebration of Pat’s life at Young’s Funeral Home 11831 SW Pacific Highway Tigard, Oregon 97223 on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Patricia was born in Wenatchee, Washington on September 4th, 1938 to Roman and Irene (Blue) Houdek. In 1942, the family relocated to Lake Grove, Oregon along with her maternal Uncle Larry (Catherine), maternal Aunt Islya (Pat) and cousins Shirley and Laurie. Roman and Irene purchased properties that were slated to be demolished and the three men used the materials to build new homes in Lake Grove. Her two siblings, Brother Terry and Sister Ruthanne plus many more cousins were born later. They were all close and were like siblings to each other, celebrating birthdays, holidays, taking care of the chickens, rabbits, picking and canning the vegetables, fruits, nuts, and the cucumbers for pickles. They were active members of the Lake Oswego Lutheran Church and were baptized there. When the Lake Grove Elementary School burned down in 1948, due to a furnace explosion, classes were held in parts of the new school that was partially built on the same property. In 1951, she was in the first eighth grade class to attend the newly built Lake Oswego High School. She graduated in 1956. Being a good student and getting good grades she had learned shorthand and could type 98 words per minute. Patty learned how to swim at the Lake Oswego Swim Park over the summers and later was on a synchronized swim team. For fun, she would compete in swimming races where she excelled and was offered a sponsorship to compete for the Multnomah Athletic Club but due to time constraints, she declined the offer.
Patricia was employed at Pitney Bowes for 32 years and retired in 2006. Married and divorced, she raised her four children and purchased a house in West Linn, Oregon. She loved spoiling her grandchildren and spending time with family for birthdays and holidays. She would champion on the grandkids at their various schools, scouting and sporting events and with her accumulated vacation time she would have each of the grandkids for a few days in the summer, which included an outing to the local ‘Alpenrose Dairy - Dairyville’.
She was a breast cancer survivor and a big sports fan. She always cheered for the University of Oregon Ducks. She was a talented artist; she learned the William Alexander method of painting landscapes on canvas and was thrilled to meet him at a presentation in Salem, Oregon. She also did beautiful needlework and cross stitch. She loved to do crafts with the kids and taught them how to crochet, make her special spaghetti sauce, her delicious waffles, and of course Christmas sugar cookies. Always ready to play a board game, a video game, cribbage, pinochle, hearts, and other various games, she made time go by way too fast. An avid reader, one of her favorite authors was Jude Deveraux. She loved to do crossword puzzles and watch movies, Johnny Carson, and the game show network channel on her 65” inch screen television. Her favorite song is “O Sole Mio” Version by Elvis Presley; “It’s Now or Never”. Her favorite color is red.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roman in 2001; and her mother, Irene in 1994. She is survived by her children Craig Dunn (Christy); Dale Lundberg; Terri Tennis (Jon); Vicki Dunn (Wilton); 6 grandchildren; Christopher Tennis (Krista); Emily Tennis Roesch (John); Rachel Burch (Alex); CJ Dunn (Cynthia); Jesse Dunn; Casey Dunn Morandi (Matt) 5 great Grandchildren; Roland, Arlo, Calvin, Adelynn, Elijah; Her brother Terry Houdek (Ronna); sister Ruthanne (Larry) and many cousins, nieces & nephews.
The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to Signature at Home Hospice Care for their excellent care.
