Ursula Mathilde Bunster was born in Nuremberg, Germany on July 30, 1938, the eldest of four daughters. She died in her sleep from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease on October 15, 2018. She celebrated her 80th birthday in Oregon this past summer.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rene O. Bunster, her parents, Curt and Gunda Rintzel, and sister Erika Bourve’. Survived by her sisters, Elfi (Klaus Wagner, d.) and Gisela (Uwe Becker), Germany, daughter Jackie, and Joachim Steinhauser of la Tour de Peilz, Switzerland, son Mark and fiancee’ Amy Ferguson, Yolanda (Rene’s sister) and Jay Waddell, and Theo (Edith) and Marisa (Patti), all send love throughout the globe to Ursula’s long distance family and friends. Ursula is also survived by her beautiful, Shepherd mix dog, Maxi. Oma Ursula had 3 grandchildren; Alisa, Max and Annie. Chloe, Cate and Clair (Amy) cared dearly for Oma, as well.
Ursula loved her German heritage more than life itself. She could be on one of her many adventures in life, such as bungee jumping in South Africa, and make a new friend for life. Ursula Mathilde was a humanitarian. Her true love of animals was displayed everyday caring for her 12 year old, Husky mix, Maxi. An avid vegetarian and love for beautiful landscapes, Ursula enjoyed being in her garden and outside on sunny days. While Jackie and Mark were young, Ursula was a homemaker. Professionally, Ursula was a bookkeeper and corporate secretary for a commercial realty company in Alexandria Virginia for 20 years. Later in the 90’s, she was an international help desk volunteer at Dulles International Airport, assisting travelers from around the world, but especially the Germans! She was married to Rene’ for 58 years. They met in Germany while he was stationed in Nuremberg. While attending her American Naturalization classes in the early 60’s, she met her lifelong, best friend, also from Germany, Chris Teskey. Teaching herself British English at age 18, she was bilingual and traveled as a young adult. She was resilient and forthcoming with what she believed in life.
Ursula and Ray have many friends in the Westminster Retirement community in Woodbridge, Virginia, that were always stopping by to chat, see Maxi or join them for a glass of wine on Monday night gatherings at their cottage. Ursula was also loved and cared for by residents and staff at Washington Gardens, Tigard, Oregon.
A celebration of Ursula’s life will be held at Washington Gardens Memory Residence, 9000 S.W. 91st Ave., Tigard, Oregon, October 20, 2018 at 2pm. Expressions of sympathy are welcome by making a donation in Ursula’s name to the National Parkinson Foundation or National Wildlife Federation.
