Ann Louise Walker passed away on March 5, 2026. Ann Louise Walker, lovingly known as “Annie Bee,” will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, humor, and the joy she brought to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born on October 13, 1939, Ann grew up with a love for music and dancing and once dreamed of becoming a Rockette. She attended Montgomery Blair High School, an alma mater shared with notable graduates such as Ben Stein and Goldie Hawn. Even in her younger years, Ann possessed the charm, energy, and sense of fun that would define her throughout her life.
Ann first married Steve Barber, and together they welcomed two children, Kelly and Steve. Later she married Robert “Lynn” Walker, with whom she shared a loving partnership filled with friendship, travel, and laughter. She was the dearest mother-in-law of Sharon Barber. Her family grew to include her cherished grandchildren, Krista and Michael Wessinger, Michael and Christy Sutton, Haley and Joe Weinstein-Avery, and Kyle and Marissa Sutton, and great grandchildren Lucy Anne Wessinger and Cora Kaye Wessinger, all of whom were a tremendous source of pride and joy.
Long before working from home became common, Ann was something of a pioneer—working remotely as a typist for a court reporter while raising her children. She also cherished the years she spent as a stay-at-home mother, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and an open door for family and friends.
Ann and Lynn loved entertaining and were known for hosting wonderful dinner parties. Guests were often treated to some of her signature dishes: curried chicken, lasagna, crab cakes, steaks, or a roast served with her famous “Jack Tar” potatoes. As the evening went on, the music would come on and the dancing would begin, often to favorites like Proud Mary and Joy to the World.
Her love of music extended far beyond the living room. Ann delighted in attending Broadway shows, the symphony, and concerts by artists she loved, including Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, and Celine Dion.
Ann had a well-known sweet tooth—especially for chocolate—and she often reminded everyone, “There’s always room for dessert.” If you asked her to name her favorite things in life, the list would have been simple and heartfelt: family, friends, travel, good wine, chocolate, butter, watching ice skating competitions, and occasionally falling asleep on the sofa after a full and happy day.
She loved staying active and spent many wonderful hours playing tennis with friends and with Lynn. She enjoyed her quite time playing Mahjong. Their shared love of adventure also led them to travel widely. Their honeymoon in St. Croix was just the beginning, followed by trips to Mexico, Hawaii, England, Germany, Switzerland, and Amsterdam. After Lynn’s passing, Ann continued exploring the world with her sister Nancy and her dear friend Gail.
When Ann moved to Timonium when Steve was just a year old, she quickly became part of the Pine Valley and Valleywood communities. There she formed lifelong friendships with people such as Joan Mahan, Gaye Zarbock, Sheila Altimus, and her tennis friend Doris Silverwood—relationships that meant so much to her throughout the years.
Her home was also a welcoming place for her children’s friends. During high school gatherings, many would wander upstairs to sit at the kitchen table and chat with Ann. She became a second mom to many, including Drew, Matt, Sandra, and others who always felt comfort and acceptance in her presence.
Ann was also financially savvy and deeply generous. She supported many charitable causes, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Humane Society of the United States, reflecting her lifelong love of animals. Whenever a story touched her heart—whether involving family, friends, or even friends of friends—Ann would reach for her checkbook without hesitation. Her kindness and generosity were simply part of who she was.
Those who knew Ann most often describe her with two simple words: sweet and funny. Those qualities never left her, even during her difficult journey with cancer. She faced it with remarkable strength, grace, and dignity, inspiring those around her with her courage and spirit.
Ann Louise Walker lived a life filled with love, laughter, music, friendship, and generosity. Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched, the meals shared around her table, the songs that still make us think of her, and the love she gave so freely.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
