Frances Mary Palmer, age 91, passed peacefully, after a life well lived, on Saturday, February 11, 2017. She was the daughter of Elizabeth and Jeremiah Krebs and was one of ten children, all of whom were born and raised in Hampden, Maryland. Fran graduated from Eastern High School and worked at The Maryland Casualty before marrying Frank R. Palmer III, her husband of 67 years. Their marriage was a picture of love and selfless devotion and an inspiration to all who knew them.
Fran’s life was, truly, wonderful in all of the small ways that brought happiness to so many people. Never a world traveler in spirit or reality, her world was small but rich and happy. From her home in Towson to Monkton and Bright View at Mays Chapel, she filled her life with family and friends. Fran created a warm and friendly home, her heart and door always open to any and everyone, living the theme of “the more the merrier.” There was always a cup of coffee or sweet iced tea for anyone who dropped by, and maybe a slice of cake or a “tuna fish” sandwich, at lunch time.
Fran was a friend and nurturer to everyone. She loved people and took care of them. No matter where she went, Frannie had friends. From Wegmans to Walmart, the Hereford Bank and Post Office, to their home of 47 years on Corbett Road, she loved nothing better than to have family and friends over. Fran was a real “people person.” She loved tennis, swimming in their pool, and especially delighted in celebrating the holidays with a full house with as many of her large family of children, sisters, brothers, and all of their children who could come. In her later years at Bright View Senior Living at Mays Chapel, Fran was well liked by everyone, from friends and staff, to residents and new comers. She made everyone laugh with her off the cuff comments and was always in the lobby ready to drive the world to Dunkin Donuts, the Dollar Store, or Bob Evans.
Above all else, Fran was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She delighted in being an integral part of her children, grand children and great grandchildren’s lives. Gram or Nini, as she was affectionately called, was always there to help with doctor and dentist appointments, warmed peaches and soft boiled eggs after a cold or stomach bug, everyone’s birthdays, special school events, swim meets, little league and lacrosse games, and riding competitions. She traveled far and wide from Newark, DE, Bethany Beach, De, Williamsburg, VA, and Atlanta, GA to be with her family. Fran lived her life with the idea that “Love is better shown than spoken.”
