The 7th of 14 children, Gay, as her friends knew her, was born August 10, 1949 in Eagles Mere, PA to the late Dene D. Andrews and Mary Grace Andrews.
A graduate of Geisinger School of Nursing, Gay was proud to be a nurse and worked in many fields. She had a strong passion to always take care of people. After having her children, Gay took a brief reprieve from nursing and became a licensed day care provider so she could spend more time raising her own children.
Gay enjoyed being home with her own children as well as caring for others. She took this opportunity to become very involved in the community as well. She was President of the Warren Elementary PTA for a number of years. She successfully helped organize the “Elf” shop at the elementary school as a PTA fundraiser.
As her three girls grew, her desire to be involved in their lives grew as well. The girls joined the local swim team, so Gay jumped in with them. She took on the role of leading the swim team. The team grew and experienced success, moving up the ranks into every more competitive levels of the swim league. Already so involved, Gay took things one step further and became a certified stroke and turn judge. Additionally, she organized the community yard sale for 10 years.
Gay returned to a full-time nursing career in 1987, this time changing her field to rehab and geriatrics. Gay enjoyed this field very much before retiring in 2005.
Gay enjoyed cooking for her family. One of her greatest joys was when the friends of her daughters would gather in her kitchen and bake. She was a great hostess and her heart smiled when she had a full table for dinner. In addition to cooking, Gay also enjoyed gardening and particularly appreciated admiring the colors in her garden as the flowers bloomed.
Gay was blessed with great friends and family and will be missed tremendously. Gay is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Bill, her daughter Jennifer and her husband Alton and their four children (Hannah, Quint, William, and Elizabeth). Her daughter Kathleen.
