Jacqueline “Jackie” Perkins of Timonium, Maryland passed away June 23, 2022. She was born March 18, 1935, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Walter Sewell Smith and Margaret Frazier Smith. Most of Jackie’s growing-up-years were spent in Northwood, where she lived with her older sister, Elva Mae, and younger sister, Helen. Some of Jackie’s favorite childhood pastimes included playing the piano, boating and fishing with her parents, and as she would say, “running with her friends”. She maintained many of these friendships throughout her life.
After graduating from Eastern High School in 1953, Jackie married Benjamin G. Washburn. Together they were employed by--and later co-owned--Smith’s Refrigeration, a mechanical contracting firm in Baltimore.
Jackie spent most of her adult life residing with her family in Lutherville-Timonium (Mays Chapel Road). Referring to this loving home, she often stated humorously that she "raised three kids" --Ben, Jr., her son; Sue, her daughter; and Mark Markuson, her future son-in-law. Additionally, Jackie "raised" multiple dogs including "Patty-Girl", "Toby", "Sam", and "AJ". Jackie’s leisure pastime continued to include boating and fishing. She and her husband, Ben, logged many hours cruising the Chesapeake Bay on their boat, "Hey Sue".
Throughout her life, Jackie was active in her churches. She taught Sunday School at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Parkville. Later, at Grace Lutheran Church in Lutherville, Jackie gave very generously of her time and talent in service and support of numerous church-related activities. Throughout these years, Jackie cultivated many dear and lasting friendships.
Jackie enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She visited many US states and European countries.
In later life, she married Carl R. Perkins, and they enjoyed many happy years together along with his son Ray A. Perkins and his wife Susan, and their children, until his passing in 2015.
Jackie was blessed with a beautiful grandchild, Hannah. She and "Grandma Jack" truly enjoyed each other's company. They laughed and shared stories. More importantly, they enjoyed “getting their toes done” together.
To her friends and family, Jacqueline was known as "Jackie", “Jug”, Jean", "Mom", "Aunt Jack", or "Grandma Jack". Her willingness to help others impressed all who knew her. Jacqueline's loved ones enjoyed her beautiful smile, and always received comfort from her care and affection.
Jacqueline was the loving wife of the late Benjamin Washburn and in later years, the late Carl Perkins; cherished mother of Susan Washburn Markuson and her husband Mark, Benjamin G. Washburn Jr. and his wife Beverly; dear sister of the late Elva Mae Lloyd and late Helen Roberts; dear sister-in-law of Georgia Washburn Neville and the late William “Bill” Neville; and adored grandmother of Hannah Markuson and her fiancé Chris; and caring aunt.
