I had been thinking of Jeff a lot lately.  I wonder what had happened to him.  I looked him up on Google, and find his obituary.   I am truly sorry to learn of his passing.  He was a good friend of mine from Towson State,  and we had many adventures together over the years before we went our separate ways. To his collective family, I send my deepest condolences. Jeff was my best friend and someone that was easy to talk to about anything. We worked together, fished together, hunted together and socialized together with family and friends. I will miss his booming laugh and the fun we always had together. Jeff is someone that just cant be replaced in your life. I will miss him dearly and I'll see you again one day my friend. What I wouldn't give to spend another carefree day with Jeffrey!  Not only was he my cousin, but also a friend and confidant.  We've shared so many laughs over the years, and had become really close since he retired to Virginia.  He was so proud of his waterfront home, and to live where nine generations of our Purcell family lived before us.  Jeffrey's positive attitude, generosity, compassion and overall zest for life was evident in everything he did.  His death now leaves a permanent void in our lives, and I will forever cherish my memories of our times together.  Rest in Peace now, Jeffrey. Everyone should have at least one nephew like Jeffrey.  I was especially blessed and encouraged by him. He was the BEST story teller and the life of the party.  Thanks for all of your encouragement during my prostate cancer radiation treatments. Rest in peace, my Nephew.

My sincerest condolences to the family.  Jeff will be missed by many.  All will miss his smile and sense of humor. 

Jeff always had a smile and a willingness  to help.  Those who lives he touched were made richer. Rest In Peace, my friend.

While I did not know Jeff for long, our common interests of fishing, goose hunting, boats and history made us fast friends during his time here in Virginia.   Jeff's honesty, quick whit, love of people and sense of humor endeared him to many people in his adopted home on the Northern Neck.  My family and I will always keep the memories that we made with Jeff close to our hearts and I can say that I am better for having known him.  Rest in peace Captain Jeff until we meet again.

Our condolences to the extended Eichler family.  Jeff was full of life and we will miss him greatly.

Working in our Verizon 911 World was always more fun with your sense of humor.  Training was less boring with your stories and laughter. Your Maryland customers loved you so much…I had big shoes to fill when you retired. Will always remember you as the life of the party, the guy with the huge, generous heart and the love you had for your family. 


Uncle Jeff, Big Jeff or just Jeff, was an inspiration and guide to me in my early years camping and exploring the outdoors. Big Jeff was always the 'expert' at camp, showing us how to bait our hooks to catch bluegill or feeding us some kind of wild game for the first time. He was an infamous story teller around the campfire too... I'll never forget the "Greenbrier Butcher" story where the butcher's hook scrapped on our camper window late at night and sent me and my sister bizerk. Jeff is a longtime friend of my father, Jim, who brought him into my life where his memory will continue to live on. I moved away to Colorado from Maryland for college and I was thrilled when Jeff came to visit with my Dad my sophmore year, he was just starting his first rounds of treatment back then. After an awesome week fishing and drinking beer together, like guys do, my roommates and I all participated in Mustache Movember to support Jeff. I've had a mustache every since and tell these stories about Jeff to my friends and family to spread the word about mens health. Thanks Jeff, for being such an inspiration, encourager and supporter of the wild parts of life - every time I am out on the water fishing, I'll be sure to catch a few for you. Lydia, Andrea and the rest of the Eichler family, I am so sorry for you lost. Jeff put up one hell of a fight and I know he will be watching over you all from his charter boat in the sky. Sending my thoughts your way. RIP Big Jeff!

Jeff will be very missed.  Always a fun & great person. Met him thru Verizon & my work in 911.  My thoughts & prayers are with his wife, daughter and whole family. 

Uncle Jeff showed me how to crab fish, the laws of the sea, and was a special type of person. Someone that could tell a joke that got the whole room laughing. Someone that commanded a conversation, and was someone who had no second thoughts to throwing some meat on the grill and having a beer. I will never forget the memories I made on those sweltering summer days around him and family . He will live on in me. He was loved.

Rest In Peace Brother!  You will be greatly missed!  I’m glad I could be there for you!  Until we meet again keep fishing!  

He will be remembered for his smile, laughter, compassion and passion  for life.  Will always be remembered by those whose lives he touched


I managed 911 centers in two Maryland counties and worked with Jeff on many Verizon projects.  He was fun, sharp, and very knowledgeable.  Time with Jeff guaranteed laughter.  What a unique guy, one of the best.

Jeff was full of life and Joy and brought that to the people that He met an knew him. His fight for life was an example of what He was all about , do what ever it takes to make it happen. Work hard, Play hard and give . He will be truly missed and forever in my thoughts, every time a fish is landed, or a car is restored I will hear the loud voice celebrating one of life's victories.  As I told Jeff as he fought his battle ," If it doesn't work out  I'll see  you on the other side my brother , you'll be the 1st person I look up , Love you brother man.
