I am so sorry to learn of Mary's death. Please accept my belated condolences.  I was always happy to see Mary & Ossie when they came in to ask me to make travel arrangements.  They were so nice to work with and always knew exactly what they wanted.   It occured to me only recently that I had not heard from Mary about going to St. Anton.  When I called this evening and got someone else on her number, I then tried her cell phone with the same result.  I'm very sad not to have been aware of her passing last year.

I always got a kick out of calling Mary and Ossi for our windshield repairs because they were the first one in the area to do these types of repairs. Mary was one of the kindest people that I have ever come across. She was a lovely lady and will be missed.

I feel so bad I was not able to join in celbration of Mary's life. I did not know until it was too late. Mary was the big sister I didn't have. I have a lifetime of memories of our good times and endless laughter. My sincere condolences to all her family and friends. So very sorry for your loss. She was a wonderful friend. To Mary's family,

I was grateful to see the pictures that honor Mary and so much of whom and what she loved.  I always admired Mary's zest for living, her sense of humor, her throaty laughter, and the sparkle in her eyes. My sister, Janet, and I were delighted to have a wonderful conversation with Mary following a TriVita education event Sue Buscemi invited us to. I am sorry for your loss.  It's hard to imagine Mary with her high energy gone to the other side already.

To Cindy, Bobby, Tommy and family,

I read Adrienne True’s Guest Book entry about Mary and I was moved to put my thoughts down as well.  We were all part of the same neighborhood and Mary was an important part of my childhood, too. 

I hadn’t seen Mary in many years but our childhood bond was still strong.  As a child, I wanted to be just like Mary Supik! She had boundless energy and it was always hard for me to keep up with her!  

When I was 12 years old we got a swimming pool in our back yard.  At the time I could hardly swim but Mary was all ready an expert.  I worked so hard to swim as well as she.  I eventually learned to swim well, but I never did win a race against her.  She joined the diving team in high school and did flips forwards and backwards,  inward dives, jack-knives -  all the fancy dives that I never could quite master.  It all seemed to come so easily to her. 

She was an amazing athlete! She rode horses and won blue ribbons at the horse shows; I was a terrible rider who fell off frequently. I spent long hours in the barn with her cleaning stalls and hauling water.  I watched  her school horses for hours and hot-walked uncounted horses when she was finished riding them.  I even went with her to many of the horse shows.  

I loved being around the horses but I liked being around Mary more.  She was charismatic and fun!  Mary worked hard but once her work was done, she was free to play!  We never ran out of things to do.  We went swimming or played at the Tarzan swing, sneaked cigarettes,  drove around the neighborhood, got into mischief and had fun!  We laughed and talked about boyfriends, school, family – all the usual stuff – and then would talk on the phone some more in the evening.  On special occasions we’d spend the night at each other’s house and talk into the night. 

I met Ossie once, before they married and when I heard he was a ski instructor I knew she’d soon be skiing down the black diamond slopes.

We were great friends as kids and she truly enriched my life!  My best wishes go out to Mary’s family and friends.


To Bobby, Cindy, Tommy and Family,

I’m so grateful I could be a part of the celebration of Mary’s life over the last couple of days.   As an adult I was always happy to run into Mary and catch up on the details of her life. “Fun” was frequently used to describe her. I couldn’t agree more. She has been and will always be an important part of my many favorite childhood memories.  A tad bit older than me and far more talented, I was always in awe of her abilities.  She was brave, bold and daring while I was shy and timid to try new things. But she made me very brave once and I’m still proud of it.  We had finished cleaning the stalls and were putting things away.  A pitch fork fell off the hook and one spear landed in my foot close to a toe.  My eyes got wide and I was on the verge of tears. Mary pulled it out.  She started to laugh so hard and said “lets just put a little gentian violet on it”.  Of course her laugh was infectious and I quickly laughed too and agreed to her therapy (which included a small request to keep this to ourselves).  I’ve always been delighted with my little scar. Other memories such as learning to gallop like a horse on hands and feet, sneaking smokes under the Dance Mill Road bridge and taking a sleigh ride in the snow have and will always be precious to me. I will dearly miss my childhood friend.  I am so sorry you have lost your baby sister.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
