Bryan's Eulogy

I have been in awe of Ron for as long as I can remember, in fact Ron has been in my life from the age of 4. He and Jan were married when I was 5, consequently I can't remember a time when Ron wasn't in my life.  My memories of Ron are many, the Auto Train to Florida, taking pills without anything to drink and of course, "The Lizard". 

The memories that stand out are the vegetable garden: When I was young, I watched each spring as he planted his treasured vegetable garden. He painstakingly lined up the rows, equidistant from each other and carefully dropped in seeds. He grew a lot, but his tomatoes were the prized jewel in this crown of vegetables. I started a vegetable garden at a young age and secretly competed with him. He always won. His tomato plants were usually twice the size of mine and always produced endless amounts of tomatoes.

Another memory was the prized Black & Decker hedge trimmer. He taught me how to round off, square off and cone shrubs. Jan & Ron's landscaping was always the best in the neighborhood. He was always enlarging, reshaping and changing the landscaping and because of his influence, I have followed in his footsteps and think of him every time I work on my landscaping at home. 
The preciseness by which he gardened followed through in everything he did. The model airplanes that you see around this room are proof of his unsurpassed attention to detail. 

I am mostly in awe of him because he received my sister's hand in marriage. As many of you know, she's the person I have always looked up to and have loved the most. I thought if she loves him, he must be amazing, and he was!

I will close with this thought:

As you have heard and will hear, he never complained about his illness and never prescribed to the thought that he had limitations. This leads me to this example:

Jan had invited me to go to the pool one summer day, so I arrived around 11:30 knowing she wanted to be one of the first in line to get into Glyndon Pool. As I walked around the side yard I became a witness to something extraordinary. There was Jan with a rope around her waist and leaning back pulling on the rope and Ron was semi-waving the chainsaw and with determination cut down the tree in the back yard. It was scary at the time and we have laughed about it since, but truly and inspiration.

I will ask everyone to stand if able.

First, I would like to thank Ron for his Love and Devotion to his family, for no matter what challenges he faced, he never complained and finally for his incredible will to live.

Secondly, I want to thank Jan for showing me what true Love and Devotion looks like and I am so proud to be your brother.

My big brother you will always be in my heart and thoughts. You were loved by many for being a kind, strong and wonderful man. Your struggle was long and now you can rest.  Love  Mary and Sal

The hearts and prayers of the Midtown Academy community are with Mr. Wagner's family at this difficult time.  Our wonderful colleague, Tina, shared many great stories about her dad.  If the measure of a father's life is  the children he leaves behind, Mr. Wagner's life was truly extraordinary.

Ron was a good friend and neighbor.  He was a joy to talk to and be around even when his disease made it difficult for him.  We will keep him in our prayers.

Carole and I would like to offer our deepest sympathy to the Wagner family. Try and be strong in your time of sorrow.

I walked outside last night and looked up at the stars and said, "Dear Lord, now that Ron is in your loving hands, please watch over and protect all the loved ones he had to leave behind, he was my friend and an inspiration to me. Take good care of him until we see him again, Amen."

This man is my hero.  I love you, Uncle Ron.

Ron is the best brother ever and I will forever love and miss him, but I will always remember everything, especially my childhood time during the 60's with the best big brother in the world.
