Following a courageous battle with leukemia, Virginia P. Cage went to be with her Lord Jesus on August 22, 2012, at the age of 89. Mrs. Cage was the beloved wife of the late Col. Lee E. Cage (Ret.); loving mother of Lee Cage (Evelyn), Jon Cage (Cindy), Peggy Swearingen (Tom), Sally Moore (Chuck), Bill Cage, and Ginny Becker (Erich); sister of Polly Roberts and the late Peggy Miller; also survived by 23 cherished grandchildren and 25 beloved great grandchildren.
Ginger was born in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, July 14, 1923, daughter of Major General Fay B. and Margaret M. Prickett. While her father was stationed at West Point, Ginger met the love of her life, Lee E. Cage, a cadet at the academy, to whom she was married for 48 years, until his death in 1990. They raised six children and lived all over the world. Following Lee’s retirement from the Army, they moved to Norfolk, VA where they were active in their church and community. For the past six years, Ginger lived at Oak Crest Village in Parkville, MD, where she enjoyed Bible studies, bridge games, and continuing education courses.
Because of her deep love for people, Ginger made lifelong friendships. She would want all of her friends and family to know how much she loved you. Her heart was full of gratitude for the many expressions of love from friends and family over the last months of her life.
While she adored her family and friends, the most important relationship in Ginger’s life was with Jesus Christ. It was evident that her hope was in Him. Her confidence in heaven made her joyful until the end.
