A man of profound faith, Bill began each morning in prayer and scripture reading. His commitment to the church was a cornerstone of his life, where he served with distinction as both a Deacon and an Elder. His passion for sharing his love of Jesus was evident for more than 50 years as a Bible study leader and teacher, guiding generations through their spiritual journeys.
His heart for service extended into the community through his volunteer work, particularly at Baltimore Station and Christopher’s Place, where he provided support and dignity to men in need.
Professionally, Bill worked for the State of Maryland for nearly 50 years, beginning as a programmer on some of the earliest computers in the state and later becoming a leader in Maryland’s IT infrastructure, serving as a Computer Systems Manager. He believed deeply in the power of education and shared his expertise as an instructor of Computer Studies at what was then Catonsville Community College. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Washington College, where he played lacrosse as a midfielder at both institutions.
Beyond the classroom and the office, he enjoyed volunteering in local youth sports for his own children and later took pleasure in being a spectator at his grandchildren’s sporting events. He found great joy in cheering on his children and grandchildren and celebrating their accomplishments, both on and off the field.
While his accomplishments were many, his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted parent alongside his beloved wife of 61 beautiful years. He cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Being with his family during holidays and special events was his greatest source of happiness.
Some of his happiest moments were spent traveling, whether on the shores of Ocean City and Fenwick Island or cruising in Alaska. Among all his travels, his trip to Scotland stood out as his favorite.
Bill was the loving husband of Barbara D. Clark for 61 years, devoted father of Tracey Ann Lucas and her husband Patrick, Cindy Lee Clark, Robin Clark Patrick and her husband Norman, and W. Andrew Clark and his wife Elizabeth, cherished grandfather of Cassidy Cratty, Christopher Lucas, Noah Patrick, Adam Patrick, Ethan Patrick, Ben Clark, Anna Clark, Nora Clark, and Jane Clark, and adoring great-grandfather of Beatrix Cratty and Cameron Lucas. He is also survived by his cousin, Jane Stewart, whom he loved as a sister.
The family will receive friends at Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church, 3701 Sweet Air Road, Phoenix, Maryland 21131 on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 10 to 11am., at which time a funeral service will be celebrated at the church at 11am.
Interment will be private.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed in Bill’s memory to Compassion International, Attn: Contribution Dept., 12290 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80921, and/or Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church, 3701 Sweet Air Road, Phoenix, MD 21131.
