I am frequently approached by people who want to express how much they miss Bill.  There is a place where he used to park on a regular basis.  Friends of Bill would regularly visit him as he sat in his care to reminisce about the old days or share new news and,  most of all, laughs.  I still miss Bill.

Selling Christmas trees with my Father and uncle at the old garage
Model rockets with my father and Uncle in the old neighborhood
Sunday family drives
A bike ride with Epworth church
Being chaperoned to a teen concert
Family fireworks at Broad Ave
Learning to shift gears on a mini bike
Learning to drive a clutch at age 15

William E Gerber, born to Asa Gerber (Gerber’s Ln, Sparks) and Kathleen Landis (Columbus, Ohio) in Cockeysville MD 1935, was a small business entrepreneur in the quiet town of Cockeysville, MD

Known as Bill to friends and family, he grew up with his parents, grandmother and older brother Norman, on Cockeysville road (formerly Beaver Damn Rd) in his grandparent’s 2 story house and attended Cockeysville school. In about 1945 at the age of 10, Bill’s family moved just a few blocks to a house on Hillside Ave just off of York Road. As a young man he worked at his father’s filling station on York road just north of the underpass for the North Central Railway, helping with his father’s residential garbage route and towing business. He also drove a county school bus and briefly ran a truck working the lines for C&P Co.

While starting a family with his wife Dorothy Rieder, it wasn’t long before Bill pursued his own residential route with the County and in contrast to his father, he expanded into commercial refuse work in the late 1960’s and early 70’s. With his father’s passing in 1971, he also continued the towing business servicing the Baltimore County and State police for over 3 decades. Over the years, with his wife tending full time to the kids, Bill was able to expand his commercial endeavor from a one truck operation to 20 commercial trucks servicing the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area. Today his wife and several of his children and grandchildren continue the business at 200 Cockeysville Road.


Those we love are never really gone ~ they have a cherished place in our hearts where they will always be remembered for the kindness they showed, the love they shared, and the happiness they brought.

I am so very sorry to hear of Bill's passing.  I adored Bill; he was always so very kind, thoughtful and a man who would give you the shirt off his back.  Bill and my Dad (Russell Bull) are cousins.  My Dad thought the world of Bill!  They were so funny together, and always had great family stories and memories to share!
