Edmund David Kahn, LCDR-JAG USNR Ret., passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, after several years battling Alzheimer’s. Edmund was born on November 11, 1935, in Bronx, New York. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, NYC, Fordham College, NYC, and Fordham Law School, NYC. He married the love of his life, Kathleen Marie Smith on August 6,1966, and soon after moved from New York City to Gallup, NM to begin his law career with the Navajo Indian Tribe, along with hopes to escape the cold. Within a year they moved from Gallup, NM to Window Rock, AZ. The cold weather continued, and when their children were 1 and 2 years of age, they moved to Tucson, AZ and the frigid weather was quickly forgotten. Tucson became their home for the next 50+ years. Ed retired in 1992 after 22 years as a Reservist in both the Army National Guard and Naval Reserves. Their retirement years were spent summering in Prescott, and wintering in Tucson, then later years in Goodyear and Litchfield Park, which was closer to family. His love of the law was replaced with tennis and pickle ball, and Bocci Ball and Jenga.
Edmund was preceded in death by his parents, Adolf and Anna Kahn, brother Walter, sister Marion (Doyle), and an infant son William. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Kathleen, sons Kevin Kahn, Andrew (Cathy) Kahn, daughter Karol (Mike) Baird, grandsons Nickolas and Nathaniel Baird, David Kahn, his sister and brother-in-law Karen and Dan Grady, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, located at 2929 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd. The service is scheduled for March 6, 2026, from 10:00am – 10:30am.
A celebration of life will be held that afternoon from 2-4pm at La Loma Independent Living Facility, located at 14154 W. Denny Blvd., Litchfield Park, AZ, 85340. If you knew Ed, you know he had a love of red socks and beautiful, colorful sweaters. If you are so inclined, dig through your drawers and closets, and wear one or both in his honor. He would be so pleased!
