Barbara was born in Hammonton, West Jersey, and grew up in a loving home with her parents, Thomas and Barbara DeLisa. She had three brothers, Mike, Thomas and Francis. She attended Red Bank Catholic High School and later lived in Ocean Township before settling in Toms River about 20 years ago.
She met her husband, Nathan, in grammar school and they were eventually married for 64 years. They owned and operated Martin’s Drug & Department Stores and Martin’s Casuals in Lavallette, NJ. Together, they also enjoyed a lifelong passion for harness racing and were proud standardbred horse owners for over 40 years.
Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, boundless optimism, and vibrant spirit. Affectionately nicknamed “Lucy” by her closest friends, she bore a striking resemblance to Lucille Ball—not just in looks, but in her natural flair for comedy. Barbara had a unique way of expressing herself that could make you laugh and reflect all at once, often leaving those around her with unforgettable stories and cherished memories. She had a rare gift for finding the good in every person and situation, and her kindness, quick wit and spunk, and generous heart left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Nathan, her son Mark, her daughter-in-law Linda, and her parents, Thomas and Barbara.
Barbara is survived by her loving children: Lorraine and her husband Paul, Ron, Thomas and his wife Tara, and her daughter-in-law Candace. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Michael, Amy, Alexandra, Brittany, Jason, and Jack.
A private service will be held by the family to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, stjude.org, in memory of Barbara.
Barbara was truly one of a kind — a beautiful soul who brought joy and love to everyone around her.
