

Born in Cokeburg, PA, she was a coal miner’s daughter and one of eight children.
She married Robert J. Staeck of Halder, WI, who was a Chief Petty Officer and served proudly with the United States Navy. They were stationed in Long Beach, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Guam and finally in Toms River where they settled with their three children Kathleen, Shirley and Robert, Jr.
Catherine was a devout communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.
She loved all living creatures, especially her three cats, Snow Ball, Shadow, and Dusty, who lived with her for 15 years.
Catherine had a passion for crocheting, and she loved gardening and made sure her home was surrounded with colorful flowers.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert J. Staeck who passed away 21 years ago.
Catherine is survived by her loving children, Kathleen Guss and her husband Daniel of Cape May; Shirley Broome and her husband John of Toms River; Robert Staeck, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA; her two cherished grandchildren Jennifer Broome and her husband Jason Smith of Canterbury, CT; Christopher Broome and his wife Kimberly of Forked River; and her two precious great granddaughters, Cassidy and Lindsay of Forked River.
Catherine was a wonderful mom, grandmother and great grandmother, and will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Her family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Green Acres Manor who faithfully cared for Catherine for over six years, especially to her caring nurses Patty, Carlo, Denise and Marakar and her aide Polly who had a special way with mom.
Family and friends may gather on Wednesday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at Anderson and Campbell on Main Street in Toms River. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Toms River. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
