
Charles was born in Englewood, NJ to parents Ethel & Henry Jackson. He had one sister, Trudy. He grew up in a one-parent household during the Great Depression, which made an indelible mark on his life, leading to his early maturation as a child & young man having a very strong personality.
At the age of 14, he secured a summer job on a steamship, the Henrick Hudson, which began his life-long love of boating & seamanship. At the age of 16, with his persistence & with his mother's permission, he entered the Army. Based in NY, his occupations included truck driver, & military policeman. He was honorably discharged, & got married to Rose DeNoia, and began his family having 3 children, Charles, Pamela, & Rodney.
Charles built his professional career starting by learning masonry skills & carpentry & earning his contractor's certificate. He gained an education in engineering, which prepared him to build many infill single-family homes, and several residential apartment buildings.
Continuing his education, he developed numerous commercial real estate projects, in which he was engaged until the age of 80.
His many interests included both sailing & power boating, for which he earned a 6 pack captain's license; flying small planes; visiting museums & traveling, which prompted him to become the "King" of organizing many impromptu weekend family trips.
During his lifetime he was an active member of Boys Scouts, Lions Club, Kiwanis, Toms River Yacht Club, his local Veteran's community & the Presbyterian Church of Toms River.
Charles was predeceased by his ex-wife, Rose, their youngest son, Rodney, as well as his life partner Barbara White. He is survived by his daughter Pamela, & his son Charles, 3 granddaughters, as well as many nieces & nephews.
Memorial Service will be held on June 29th, at the PCTR at 11 am located at 1070 Hooper Ave, Toms River, NJ, followed by a celebration of life at Toms River Yacht Club located at 1464 Rivera, Toms River, NJ.
