Chris was born in Brooklyn, NY, and from an early age embodied the qualities of service, resilience, and humor, that defined his life. He devoted a decade of his life as a firefighter serving at Engine 21 in East Midtown. His bravery and dedication to his community shone brightest during September 11th, 2001 when he stood on the frontlines with his brothers and sisters in uniform.
Before his career as a firefighter, Chris spent years on the open road as a truck driver, traveling across the country over 1 million miles. When he settled in Toms River, NJ, Chris filled his days with woodworking, home projects, and handiwork that honed in on his skills as a master carpenter.
Beyond his work, Chris was a man who lived fully and gave generously of his time and love. He cherished his family most of all. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Magnuson, his two sons, Christopher and Daniel Magnuson, and his stepdaughters Jennifer Gallagher and Elizabeth Fischer. Chris also leaves behind his three brothers, James, Brian, and Eugene Magnuson, along with many nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
Chris’ joy came not only from the people around him but from the simple rituals of everyday life. Chris was an avid fisherman, and also loved doing crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy with his family, cooking, and cheering on his favorite teams - the New York Mets and Notre Dame football.
Chris had a sharp wit, a loyal heart, and a knack for making people laugh even in the most difficult of times. His great sense of humor was a gift he shared freely, and it will echo in the memories of those fortunate enough to have known him.
As per his wishes, Chris will be cremated. While he is no longer with us in body his legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the laughter he brought, and the lessons of loyalty, courage, and love he left behind.
He will never be forgotten.
