Eric R. Johnson, 67, of Island Heights, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Friday February 23, 2018 at Community Medical Center. He was born on January 3, 1951 to Robert A. Johnson, surviving and Ethel M. Swank, deceased. Surviving is his wife Gail of over 46 years, his daughter Kelly Murt, and granddaughter Riley.
Eric is also survived by his sister Lynne, husband Chris Glover, sister Judith, husband Ron Dilzer, and brother David, wife Debbie. Eric also leaves behind brothers-in-law Jay, Wayne, David, Melvin, Kenneth and Lester Price along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Eric worked at Exxon Route 37 before joining Lester Glenn Auto Group for over 35 years. In 2016, Eric retired from the auto industry. A jack of all trades and talents, some may say a renaissance man, Eric loved learning and was never afraid to try new things. He hand-crafted wooden cabinets and bases, remodeled his home many times over, loved to make intricate wooden scrollwork, made homemade cakes, candies, and caramel corn. He was known as a gardener, chef, auto mechanic, photographer, artist, golfer, swimmer, craftsman, reader, bowler, but most importantly a family man and devoted friend.
Eric embraced his role as Papa to his granddaughter Riley, whom he taught to make pancakes, listen to records, dance around the living room, garden, and more. He will forever be missed by all those whose life he touched.
A memorial gathering in Eric’s honor will be held at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street in Toms River on Saturday March 3, from 2:00 to 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Eric's name to Deborah Heart & Lung Center in Browns Mill, NJ.
