

Gerald Simpson, 76, of Toms River, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at Community Medical Center in Toms River, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he grew up in Newark and resided in Toms River since 1971. Gerry graduated from Weequahic High School, received his Bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and his Juris Doctorate degree from Rutgers University School of Law. For over 25 years, he practiced family law on Main Street in Toms River, specializing in divorce mediation. Gerry was a member of Congregation B'Nai Israel in Toms River. He was also a member of the NJ Bar Association and a former member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed good food, wine making and kibitzing with friends. He loved music, theatrical readings and season tickets to NJPAC. He was an avid reader and loved his cats. Gerry was best known for his ability to artfully debate any topic or point-of-view. He was warm, witty and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 51 years, Shirley; his son, Matt Simpson, daughter-in-law, Memrie and his daughter, Erica Simpson Driver, all three from Marietta, GA; brother, Milt Simpson and his partner, Cathleen Gallander of Austin, TX; two cherished grandsons, Jacob Sessions and Bennett Simpson; and nieces and nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Bess Simpson.
Graveside services were held on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012 at Congregation B'Nai Israel Memorial Park Cemetery, corner of Old Freehold Rd and West Whitty Rd, Toms River. Shiva will take place after the funeral at Shirley's home, 517 Kingsley Court, Toms River, until Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Donations can be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America in Gerry's memory.
