She was born in Ranchuelo, Las Villas, Cuba on December 20, 1926 to Andres and Maria (Aguila Gil) and was one of seven children. She married Eladio Valdes Cuellar on July 24, 1949 and together had four children.
From a very young age, Gloria was incredibly hard-working, dedicated, and loyal. Her domestic skill was unparalleled. After emigrating to the U.S. from Cuba in 1965, she worked as a seamstress in Union City, NJ, and later assisted her husband Eladio in managing his accountancy office. She was also a member of the St. Augustine Rosary Society.
Gloria was a loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She cared for everyone and everything around her, including all of the pets that her family brought into her life (with and without her permission). She had the greenest of thumbs and enjoyed gardening, cooking, cleaning, caring for her grandchildren, and watching her novelas. She persevered in life with a fantastic sense of humor and great wit.
Left to honor Gloria’s memory and love are her sister, Juana Aguila Gil, her sister-in-law, Acasia Onelia Valdes, her four children, Eladio Eugenio (Carol) Valdes, Eladio Eddie (Yolanda) Valdes, Regina Valdes, Maria (Arlene) Valdes, her niece Marisela Jimenez, her eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Gloria will be laid to rest on Monday, April 26, 2021, in a private ceremony surrounded by family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gloria’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
