

born December 2, 1948 in Staten Island, New York, died peacefully at Community Medical Center on May 30, 2013.
James was a Vietnam Veteran. He served his country earning 2 Purple Hearts and Army Accommodation V for Valor. He was retired from the Department of Corrections New York and a retired bus driver for the Toms River Regional Schools. James was married to the love of his life, Georgette McHugh for over 40 years. The two moved to Toms River in 1981 where they raised two children.
He was predeceased by his parents James and Viola McHugh.
James is survived by his wife, Georgette McHugh; his children James & Yumiko McHugh and Kelly & Thomas Shea. James had four beautiful grandchildren; Kaito, Namie, Kenshin McHugh and Nolan T. Shea. Also surviving are his brother Terrance McHugh and wife Ellen; and his sisters Colleen Waller and husband Robert and Donna Nobile.
James enjoyed spending time with his family and friends spreading his infection humor and love. He had a personality that was larger than life and could lighten up any situation with his humor and smile. James was a beloved husband, father, “Podgie”, brother, uncle and friend. He shall be missed dearly.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Church, 685 Hooper Ave. Toms River, followed by a committal at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
