James "The Duke" Vitale, 75, of Toms River, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided most of his life in Brooklyn before moving to Toms River in 2004. He had worked for Con Edison in New York as an electrical mechanic for 36 years, retiring in 1996. James proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. His favorite pastime was of the Miracle Bar, where he enjoyed his friends.
Predeceased by his wife, Lucille, in 1994, he is survived by his daughters, Susan Donato and her husband John of Toms River, and Christine Vitale of Bushkill, Pa.; sisters, Ruth Vitale and Liz Willis, both of Hamilton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nicole and Andrew; and a great-grandson, Anthony.
Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, with funeral services at 8 p.m. at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River.
