Janice M. Palumbo

Janice Marie Palumbo, age 91, passed away to dance once again with her husband in heaven on November 2, 2025. Janice was born on July 6, 1934, and raised in Spring Lake Heights, NJ. A graduate of St. Margaret's Elementary School, Spring Lake, and St. Rose High School, Belmar. She went on to be a manager of Merchants Green Stamp stores until her marriage in 1961. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were in High School and college. Janice then went to work at the Ocean County Health Department for 19 years before retiring in 1999.

She lived in Belmar, NJ, with her husband and children for 8 years before the family moved to South Toms River in December 1969.

She was predeceased by her mother, Rose (Brown) Clayton, in 1987, her father Clifford Clayton in 1988, and her kind and gentle husband, Bartholomew Palumbo in December 1998. Her siblings: Marylou (Fred) Bammann and Fred (Betsy) Clayton. Her loving granddaughter, Jacqueline Palumbo and her daughter, Janice Palumbo Rourke, in May 2025.

Janice and her husband loved to dance together and take vacations, especially to Florida. Janice, her husband, and her kids went on vacation to Florida every year.

After her husband passed, she took to the road by herself. She would drive to Florida for many years and travel to France all alone. She enjoyed her own company by spending a good part of her summer on the beach at Island Beach State Park in New Jersey. During storms, she could be found watching the waves crash on the sand. She loved baking & cooking her famous spaghetti and meatballs. In her spare moments, she read, sewed, knitted, crocheted, embroidered, and played the piano. Janice can trace her roots on both her mother's and father's side as to being in New Jersey back to the 1600s in the Monmouth County area. Janice loved telling stories of the past to whoever would listen.

Surviving are her sister, Susan (Alfred) Artz, Ocean Isle Beach, NC, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is survived by her children: Daniel (his wife Cynthia) Palumbo, Lanoka Harbor, NJ. Jeffrey Palumbo, Sr., South Toms River, NJ. Her grandchildren: Christy Palumbo (Tom) Genchi, Danielle Palumbo, Rachel, Rebecca, Michael, Clayton and Dan Rourke, and Jeffery Jr. (Sarah) Palumbo. Her Great Grandchildren: Sophia and Christian Genchi and Aubrey Palumbo: and her son-in-law Dan Rourke Sr.

Janice was a “FUN” Grandma to her grandchildren and their friends.

Janice lived a full life!

Visiting Hours are Sunday, November 9th 2 pm-6 pm at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home,703 Main Street, Toms River. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 10th at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Church, 685 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Toms River.
