
Born in Jersey City, she lived in Guttenberg and North Bergen for most of her life until moving to Point Pleasant in 1995.
Mrs. Burkle obtained a Masters Degree in Education from Montclair State College and had a long career as an educator, beginning as a teacher for the Guttenberg Board of Education in 1969.
She later became a principal at the Anna L. Klein School until her retirement in 1995.
She was a longtime member of the Guttenberg Education Association, the NJEA, and the NEA, and was later a member of the Principal and Supervisor's Association.
A member of Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head, she was active in the North Bergen Pop Warner Football League when her sons were younger.
She was predeceased by her son, James, in 2013. Surviving are her husband, George; her sons, George and his wife Marilyn of San Diego, CA, Stephen of Point Pleasant, and Ronald and Gina Riccie of Toms River; her daughter-in-law, Noreen of Point Pleasant; five grandchildren, Joanna, James, Kyle, Randee Jane, and Brock; and her siblings, Karen Fischbach and her husband Peter of Hillsdale, Stephen Magnus and his wife Kate of South Plainfield, and Anne Magnus and Bill Mitchell of North Bergen.
Cremation was private, and entrusted to Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date.
