Joan Marie (Hawkins) Fizer, 69, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on January 18th, 2025, at Community Medical Center. Born on June 10th, 1955, in Jersey City, NJ to Charles E. Hawkins Sr. and Ann (Leary) Hawkins. Joan was raised in Woodbridge Township and later settled into Ocean County.
Joan will always be remembered by her contagious smile, witty sense of humor and stubbornness. She would always light up the room and would never miss an opportunity to tell a story, share a joke or talk about her many pranks. After graduating high school, Joan’s sense of adventure led her to move to Virginia and pursue an opportunity with the FBI. She lived a carefree life before marrying and starting a family where she got to live out her dream of becoming a mom and raising her children. Joan would spend countless hours in the kitchen, which included cooking her favorite dishes and sharing her love of sweets by baking delicious desserts. Joan overcame a lot of adversity in her life, including a long battle with lung cancer in which she defied the odds and had been in remission for over 17 years. She did not let the second chance go to waste and spent those years creating new memories and checking items off from her bucket list. Joan always had a positive outlook on life and her favorite saying was “it tis what it is”.
Joan is predeceased by her parents Charles and Ann Hawkins, sister Deborah Hawkins and brother Charles E. Hawkins Jr. She is survived by her husband, Ronald P. Fizer, her children, Christie Cummins, Jessica (Ed) Ulaky, David Johns and Joshua Fizer, her sister Mary (John) McDonald, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may gather from 3pm-7pm on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025, at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, located at 703 Main Street Toms River, NJ.
