
The son of John and Mary (Hurajt) Langan, John grew up in Edison, New Jersey before moving to Beachwood in 1976. He was born July 11, 1949 in New Brunswick and attended Edison High School.
At the age of 19, John enlisted in the Air Force. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Sergeant. As part of this service, John served as a Reciprocating Engine Mechanic during the Vietnam War at Benoit.
John was as a dedicated and hard worker. He was a Sheet Metal Welder for the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 27, Farmingdale, New Jersey for 30 years.
John joined the Beachwood Fire Department in 1982 and served as an active firefighter for over 30 years. He went on to serve as the Fire Company’s President in the late 1980s and in 1988 was one of the first advisors to the Fire Department’s newly formed Junior Firefighter Program. John was a life member of the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association and Past-President of the Beachwood Exempt Firefighter’s Association. In 2009 John was the recipient of the Chief’s Award for exceptional service to the fire department.
John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Beth (Mary) Langan, children: Sean (Michelle) Langan, Scott (Brenda) Langan, Michael (Christy) Langan, Mary-Kate (Tim) Millheiser; grandchildren: Aubrey, Delaney, Ashlyn, Caden, Makenna, Mackenzie, Sophia, Brody and Blake; sister: Joann Langan. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will deeply miss him. John is preceded in death by his loving parents, John and Mary Langan, and his beloved older brother, Martin (Marty) Langan. His loved ones will forever hold dear the profound love he had for his family, friends, fishing, riding his Harley, and vacationing in Maine.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, January 13, from 1:00 PM until the fireman's service at 4:00 PM. A pray service will follow at 4:15 PM and will conclude with military honors.
The Langan family would like to invite family and friends to the Beachwood Fire House, 745 Beachwood Blvd. Beachwood, immediately after the services for fellowship and refreshment.
